Lemmleinite was first discovered on Mount Koashva (Khibiny Massif, Kola) by A.P. Khomyakov. Named lemmleinite (originally without a suffix) in honor of Georgiy Glebovich Lemmlein (1901-1962). The suffix was added in 2002 to conform to the recommended nomenclature of labuntsovite group minerals.
