Chromian diopside is a chromium-containing variety of the mineral diopside. The name of the variety comes from the name of the mineral species – “diopside” and the chromophore impurity of the chemical element, the ions of which cause the characteristic green color – “chromium”. The saturation of the color of the mineral depends on the amount of chromium contained in it and can vary from pale green to bright green.
